Some more paintings

Last week I taught a spontaneous pick up workshop, had a super time, and painted this demo--De De and Cordelia painted awesome works, that had there own feel to them--when they send them on I will post them.

This was with a scarlet underpainting--fun, challenging--especially when one thinks of the darks as bright red...

Love painting this from Nancy's porch, a big rubber tree.

I have one more session for this or a little in-studio editing, cleaning up the back corner, and a tweak here and there.

Gardenia

I don't paint flowers often, but this little gardenia was placed beautifully in my room--I am the guest of friends for a few weeks. It was a welcoming touch--and painting it is likewise.

California Plein Air Cont.

This beach towel is a blast to paint...I have to finish it tomorrow, abut I am looking forward to that very much.

This I started today...at an hour I call time out, and since this is where I living it is easily to come back the next day...also this is California, and the weather is incredibly consistant day in day out.
I am really stressing the spatial depth as much as possible.

Three Branches. I loved painting this, the spot was really beautiful...all the shimmering light was huge challenge.

Recent California Plein Air Paintings

This was at the top of Solstice Canyon, oh gosh, really great panoramic views of the mountains around the California coastline. One reason California is famous for the plein air painters is that the weather is virtually always sunny and calm--ideal for painting

This is in the Solstice Canyon, late afternoon, the light was shimmering--here I joined a group of plein air painters, great experience.

I went up hiking in Solstice Canyon, a little north of Malibu, California--great spot to paint, I even came across a neat group of people painting plein air.

This is the back of Nancy's home, she has a kind of beach/house/compound place.

Hye Coh and Denouement

Yesterday, Novemeber 12th 2008, I went out plein air painting with Hye Coh, one of the artists on my mentor program. Hye has been very successful in the animation industry. She came to pick me up at Nancy Frey's home, where my painting Denouement resides. I enjoyed showing Hye the painting very much, and she commented: "Seeing this painting is like seeing the great paintings in the great museums in Europe, like in London or Paris." That was quite an honor.

After Sunday's Life Drawing Group

A recent pic taken of me after one of the October Sunday life drawing sessions in my loft. I enjoy hosting them very much--and the artist and models are great to work with.

Stay tuned, I will be posting some of my new California landscapes here as I take photos of them. I am painting everyday in the Los Angeles area from Nov. 8th-Dec. 15th.

Cheers,

Michael
